Synchronized Swimming, an Olympic
sport, is the execution of precision movements performed to
music on, above, or beneath the water. The sport combines
athletic endeavor with aesthetic grace and attracts athletes who
possess strength, flexibility, and creativity. Synchro
swimmers perform complex movements to music during their
routines, sometimes holding their breath for up to a minute
while underwater. Anyone who has been a speed swimmer, diver,
gymnast, cheerleader, dancer or water polo player would have a
great background for the sport. And even if you’ve never done
any of these things, you still might try it and be a natural!
The synchro club is open to all UF students,
faculty and staff. No tryouts or experience needed! The
only requirement is being able to pass a simple swim test: to
complete a non-stop 200-yard swim, and 5 minutes of treading
water.
We are open to veterans as well as beginners and
will train anyone with and interest in the sport.
Doing synchro
is a unique and fun way to get a great cardio and aerobic
workout, build long and lean muscles, increase flexibility and
improve breathing and lung control. At collegiate meets, there
are competitive categories for beginners. So even with no prior
experience, you could be able to travel and compete with the
club!
Gator Synchro was founded in 2001 by seven students, formerly of
Florida Age Group teams. We are consistently one
of the top club-level teams in the country. As
an “emerging NCAA sport,” we compete against both club and
varsity teams from colleges and universities nationwide.
The benefits of coming to the University of Florida are endless.
Our team is competitive, but at the club level there is not the
same time commitment as a varsity program. The University of
Florida offers an affordable education, top-notch synchro
coaching and is a school with proud sports tradition.
